Well, you're going to get pushback on this AS STATED. For example, it should create no issues if I say "Bruce Jenner won the decathalon in the Olympics" because that is statement of objective reality, occurring long before Jenner identified herself as "Caitlyn".
I completely agree with you that to continue referring to Caitlyn by her previous name ex post facto is rude and unacceptable social behavior. But changing the past is also unacceptable to most.
