Yep. This problem continues to show up in all sorts of venues, whenever the government vends money to the citizens in anything other than a fully automated (Social Security) scenario.

I recall discussions regarding the Obama stimulus plan in this regard; that for every job “created” by the stimulus plan, it cost the taxpayer about a quarter of a million dollars.

And when you’re paying $250,000 to create a job that pays $50,000……it begs the question of who is running the asylum.

As the original author suggested, work done by Megan McArdle and others have indicated that single payer would save people….approximately nothing, due to the unique messes that our “system” is in.
