The message, then, seems to be this: Trump’s policies are not the problem. Trump’s corruption is not the problem. Trump’s criminal activity is not the problem. He just needs to be more polite, more civilized, more dignified.
If you separate Trump’s policies from his verbal and twitter behavior, what you’re left with is a set of garden variety Republican policies. There are some outliers — — obviously, Trump is less “neocon” than most GOPers, and was willing to play the tariff card to try and repair some/all of the overly-corporatist trade agreements which were generous to our counterparties but not American workers.
So, you’re correct. Trump doesn’t represent any sort of major course change from GOP presidents in the past.
