Years of watching heated discussions on the nature of Social Security have taught me certain things:

1) There is a lot of disagreement about it's structure. It is an annuity? Insurance? Social welfare?

2) There is a lot of disagreement about why it is imperiled into the future.

And everyone's opinions contain elements of the truth.
