Which also means an audience of protest.
The speech did not occur. Thus, there was no audience of protest. So, we didn’t reach the point where we could debate that question.
Are we talking about de facto free speech or de jure free speech?
My first thought is “who cares?”. Look, Milo is a provacateur. He is one of a growing group of individuals who believe that liberals have been saying whatever BS they like to fawning crowds supported by liberal media and university administrations, while conservative counterpoint has been squelched outside of talk AM radio and the Fox News pundits. Do you really want to (legally) find a way to step in front of that train?
With the consequence of, “If you live by the sword, you’re apt to die by it.”
Be that as it may.
“White Nationalism” is the synthesis of white supremacy and extreme nationalism. The term is accurate.
I can’t agree. It could also be the former without the latter.
I think this analysis is a bit off. Spencer is credited for popularizing the “alt-right” term; and honestly, the alt-right is not even a real movement; it’s just internet-based far-right sociopolitics.
Then it’s on us to find a proper way to define these people. Milo is certainly not a racist; if you use the same term to conflate him and Spencer, then we’ve done the former a disservice and we’ve let the latter off easy. We need not to slur our language, and use the same term to define people who have radically different sociopolitical.
Whether you really want to admit it, there’s a conservative orthodoxy that the alt-right subscribes to; conservatism is rooted as a reactionary response to uphold real and imagined traditions and unfortunately, white nationalism fits in whether you want to admit it or not.
Opinion stated as fact. Conservatism has always been viewed as reactionary by the left, which views it’s own overreaches as good and noble, and opposition to those overreaches as evil and dark. The fact that fools like white supremacists align with “conservatives” is no more of an indictment of conservativism as is the communists aligning themselves with liberals. Rats always try to find the closest board to crawl on.
Count me out. As much as I may dislike intolerant views, I’d rather live in a nation that tolerates them than otherwise. If you left it to this statement, then you would have nailed your point.
Then let’s leave it there. :-)
