What this seems to add up to (not just from this article, but from others that have been written on this and similar topics) is the following:

  1. This thing is very contagious, but not that fatal.
  2. It manifests somewhere between allergy symptoms and death, depending on the victim. And it can be lethal to those without comorbidities also, which is sort of unexpected.
  3. When it IS fatal, it kills in odd, unexpected patterns. People who feel mildly sick for a week and then die unexpectedly. The “cytokine storm”. Etc. This has the effect of scaring the beejeezus out of people and making it seem a lot more dangerous than it is, because they do not normally happen when people die of influenza or pneumonia.

What we need is a break in the action so all the smart people can pivot from keeping patients alive to studying what was killing them, and why it just seems to bounce off most people while it’s killing others.
