What fries me is the furniture waste.
For those who don’t know Houston, but now know some of the buzzword locations, the backup of the Barker Reservoir to the west and the overspill of Buffalo Bayou flooded some VERY pricey real estate, to the tune of 200% to 1000% of the Houston median home price. Some of the most expensive homes in Houston are located on Buffalo Bayou.
So, if you drive those neighborhoods, what you see is beautiful…EXPENSIVE….solid wood furniture……just getting tossed into a heap, junked because it’s easier to just have the insurance company buy you a new one.
Pet peeve of mine: In my youth, my grandfather and I used to work on furniture projects together. He built, I finished. Or we re-finished. So I get annoyed when I see fabulous pieces tossed out for junk, when all they need is to be dried out and refinished.
Boats used to be made of wood, after all. Water doesn’t destroy wood.
