What does this mean, “semi-regular”? Is it happening with more regularity than school shootings in the US a few years ago? Can you cite an accelerating death toll in these countries?
Let’s reason properly.
You’re obsessed with offering a false choice, I assume because you want to de-legitimize concern with Islamic terrorism by comparing it to other other scenarios of accidental death in the US which are avoidable, essentially saying “why worry about THIS problem while you’re ignoring THIS problem?”
That’s not legitimate reasoning; the question on the table is “now that we’ve had our own instances of terror recently (Boston Marathon, San Bernadino, Orlando) and we are starting to see similar patterns to France and Sweden a decade ago emerge, what sort of intervention can be staged to prevent major issues?
It is not “fearmongering” to look at a particular crime problem, try to determine its source, and attempt to prevent it from getting worse. It’s the strategic objective of law enforcement. If you think otherwise, then you’re not a dependable partner in democracy.
You are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill with no evidence backing you up.
I am often amazed (and disappointed) how often I have to do this. But, here. Evidence enough (this, btw, is with the John Muhammad events removed, because he never seemed to me to be acting out of anything but his own insanity).
So, there’s your evidence. And those are just casualty events. Events with injuries only, or events without injuries, are not counted.
As for your question, I don’t think extremist terrorists will be a huge problem in the US because we have a huge population compared to most European countries, so if we accept the same number of refugees, per capita our crime rate will be lower, assuming the same amount of crime.
Right. So as long as our percentage loss of population is low, then it’s acceptable?
Ultimately, though, the problem can only be resolved by the U.S.and Russia deciding that the Middle East shouldn’t be a clusterfuck of satellite states, help restore peace and order, and allow refugees to move back to their homes. Barring that, terrorism will simply always be a threat. Someone will always slip through the cracks.
Without objection. The point here is to keep them from becoming a regular characteristic of our society.
I use car crash here because driving in a car is fairly risky
Owning a backyard swimming pool is a similar example. Risk of accidental death skyrockets.
