Well in that regard the Middle East has not been a positive actor in the Middle East either, lol.
Well, the reality of the matter is that it would be nice to have been left alone. But the oil made that impossible.
We have certainly tried, for our own purposes of course, like helping Afghanistan fight off the Russians, using hindsight it would have been better to just let Russia take over Afghanistan considering the armpit it has remained to this day.
The one thing Muslims seem to hate more than Infidels is each other, that much seems pretty clear.
Sighs. The problem with the medieval POV is that it’s totally intolerant of anything other than what it considers correct. Ever see pictures like this?
All from Egypt in the 40’s and 50’s. Now, it looks like this:
So, why? The export of medieval Islam propped up by Saudi oil money. Nice, eh? Changed a society that in 1950 was probably about 60–65% Islamic with 25% Christian and the rest Jews, all getting along just fine, to one that’s 90/10 Muslim and Christian with no Jews at all, and there’s church bombings.
Remember, a lot of these people are not particularly literate in Classical Arabic, which they need to read the Quran for themselves. They depend on the clerics for their teaching. It’s going to take a while to root out that rot.
I believe it is estimated that we have around 4 million practicing Muslims in America. 20% would be 800,000 people that are friendly to terrorists and see Jihadist operations in a positive light?
I’d be surprised if it’s anywhere near that number of Muslims in the US. CAIR’s estimates of the number of Muslims in the US is usually double that of the more professional CUNY study.
That said, it’s rather difficult to ferret out all the nuances of the way Muslims see the matter in a poll. I think it’s best to simply say that a LOT of muslims understand why the terrorists are so pissed off, and those things piss them off too, but the vast majority would never engage in a criminal activity.
Really? Seems too easy to just say he went crazy, going crazy could express itself in millions of different ways but he decided to react to his wife wanting to leave him in one of the more radical ways Muslims have been known for?
You’re asking me to explain the behavior of a nutcase?
There is precisely ZERO justification in Islamic law for what he did. ZERO. The choices made by a crazy person when they do crazy things are not the best basis for drawing sociologic conclusions.
Does it not strike you as at least interesting?
I’m sure that in his “mind”, it seemed like beheading was some sort of “final act” of the entire murder. There’s as much chance he “learned” that from US television as anywhere else, probably more.
