How about firing the FBI Director in order to put a sock into investigations into his campaign and business dealings?
Well, that would be bad, but probably still not illegal. And the only reason that’s bad at all is because of the hypothetical reasons you’re advancing. The President can sack the FBI Director at any time without cause, legally speaking.
And, I don’t buy the argument that a sitting president cannot be indicted.
Doesn’t matter; the question is what the SCOTUS “buys” or not.
This is a big deal, btw. If the courts can indict a President, then forget all that “checks and balances” bs you learned in grade school; it’s all out the door.
That’s why the *Only* constitutional path to removal is impeachment.
