Well, I’ve thought for quite some time that the salvation of the US, ultimately, is to return to a governed federalism, where we end the roundtripping of tax dollars to the federal government (state taxes become higher than federal taxes) and the feds act simply to establish standards that the states must meet (such as, “all citizens must be covered by a health care plan which costs no more than X% of their income”).

Otherwise, we will rip ourselves apart as the two “sides” try to impose their will on the other.
