Well, I’ve been on Medium since it was good. :-)
Before they decided to separate the bourgeoisie from the proletariat (meaning preventing nonpayers from reading curated articles) there was a lot of interesting interchange here between both sides of the political spectrum. Sure, it got caustic sometimes, but the vehicle Medium provides is actually pretty good for a reasoned exchange of ideas.
Step One then was when contributors on the left started working to get contributors on the right banned. This did happen a couple of times, one notably to a right-leaning university professor of history who had the ability to ….. (hm) clarify history in such a way not beneficial to the left-leaning points of view. Medium took a dive down that day.
Then, when the actual separation of the payers and the nonpayers took place, Medium pretty much turned into another echo chamber where progressives could express how much they agree with each other in flowery terms, and then also agree on how all views other than their own were (um) inferior (being kind there).
And then all the discussion went to the extremes. People are now all either Fascists or Communists; nothing in between.
And history teaches us how well Fascism and Communism get along….even though they totally agree on the “authoritarianism” part. :-)
