How do you measure it? Are you making reference to some specific dollar amount? How is that amount arrived at? Some govt stat? Corporate taxation is complicated. Do you have some special knowledge?
- You write down the amount of money that the corporate tax contributed to Treasury in the previous year.
- You create the tax system you want, and then adjust the tax rate so the amount of money it will generate after passage is = to (1) above.
It’s not an abstract concept. It’s rather simple arithmetic.
Since you say it’s achievable, are you supportive of a bill that implements this new system? You sound authoritative and certain.
All taxes are by definition “authoritarian” because given the ability to choose, almost no one would choose to pay them. I suppose the higher the tax rate, the more authoritarian the system, but I am proposing lowering the tax rate, so …… call it whatever you like.
A few different schemes have been proposed at this point, some by Dems, some by GOP, some bipartisan….that would accomplish this. I don’t think a bill has yet been written into legislative language. But simply put, all of them reduce or remove the corporate deductions and other mechanisms that the megacorporations use to lower their tax burden to zero or single digits, then lower the marginal rate until the projected tax receipts from the new system = the receipts from the former system.
