Two thoughts come to mind:

  1. Just because a post came from a Russian troll account doesn’t mean the post is incorrect. (To believe otherwise would be a rather typical example of the “poisoning the well” logical fallacy. (The obvious example is a tweet reminding us of our well-known intelligence failure in Iraq.)
  2. If the Russians figured out they could sway US public opinion using social media… sort of stands to reason that the US government figured it out first. Does the US government use social media to influence US public opinion?
