To get things done in Washington (DC) the president has to learn how to execute the right way.
I quite agree. So far, Trump, who needs people who know how to execute in government more than most do, has been ill served. This issue with the travel ban is the best example. What moron decides to establish a ban at the POINT OF ENTRY (meaning, hundreds if not thousands of people will be in-transit when the order is executed) rather than at the POINT OF VISA APPROVAL?
If the latter had been chosen, the “heat” generated by this order would have never occurred.
It does not mean filling cabinet positions with the same type of people he talked about getting rid of (CEOs, billionaire lobbyists, etc).
I disagree strongly with this. He talked about “draining the swamp”. To me, Wall Street and CEOs were never “the swamp”. The “swamp” was lobbyists and special interest groups. Further, I don’t assume that because somebody is rich, they have evil intent.
I am unaware of anyone in the Cabinet that could reasonably be called a “lobbyist” other than DeVos, and attaching that label to her is highly questionable. A “lobbyist” is somebody employed by an advocacy organization to influence policy. DeVos sorta kinda qualifies, sorta kinda doesn’t.
And then, lost in the chaos following the travel ban was his own ban on the Administration going into lobbying. He effectively did something that Presidents have been promising but never delivering on for decades — — removed the financial motivation from working in the White House. Haven’t seen much credit from that.
On the other hand, his “thank you for your donation” pick for Ed. Secretary was not very smart. It is unfortunate in many people’s opinions. It is embarrassing because THAT is blatant hypocrisy.
I am not sure that applies. DeVos didn’t donate to Trump, IIRC, but to another candidate, perhaps Rubio? That said, we already agreed that she wasn’t the best choice. I think she’s better than an establishment educrat, but not even close to other change agents that could have been appointed.
