There’s a fine line here, sitting between two facts:
- US interventionism tends not to be a good idea, and
- The Iranian government needs to change, for the sake of the world an the Iranian people.
The variable in that equation is the definition of “interventionism”. The traditional type of interventionism, which involves military assistance so your in-country partners can do violence to the regime, desperately needs to be avoided this time; and with the demise of Mr. McCain, the loudest cheerleader for that sort of intervention is gone.
However, there is intervention which is not military…… and that sort still may be valuable.
