There is still research ongoing into non-binary/genderqueer people. Scientists of different types are beginning to understand that sex naturally doesn’t operate like a computer with a “1” or a “0”, instead it operates on more of a spectrum.
This is where I think conversations tend to break down. Sex is your hardware; outside of a tiny few birth defects, we’re all one or the other. As a computer person, I think of this as your “hardware”.
Gender is how you perceive yourself in relation to sex. As you say, it’s a spectrum. Most men and women, one assumes, never consider being anything but what they are; at the other extreme are the TGs who never had a single doubt ever that they were stuck in the wrong body. In between, there’s people who express in a range of ways without requiring a surgical solution. Again as a computer person, I think of this as my operating system. I’m a girl, never wanted to be anything else, not so for other folks.
Complicating matters are people who just have a sexual kink about the other gender, of course.
Then, there’s the sex you want your bedtime playmate to be. Another spectrum. At the risk of pushing an analogy too far, your “networking protocol.” :-)
In many cultures however, the gender binary is loose or there isn’t a gender binary at all.
Yes, you see this in Thailand and the Malay Peninsula.
In the few states that do protect us, these laws were passed years ago without the massive opposition that doing such today has.
Yes, and oftentimes where there’s no laws there’s policies. The Houston police won’t mess with you by policy, for example. And of course most large corporations protect their TG employees by policy.
The two sites above claim Transgender people to all be violent sexual predators based on a post from this site.
Well, we agree that that’s fake bullshit. If there’s a group less likely to want to trouble, I don’t know who it would be. Plus, men on hormones are not all that sexually dangerous.
You’re right of course about the same-sex marriage/Jenner matters occurring at the same time. That did start something. The question is “who started it.” Was it a bunch of social conservatives sensing that something else was about to be (in their view) jammed down their throats by the courts? Or was it the SJW’s, who needed a new “cause” to agitate for now that SS marriage was done? Both? Neither?
What a mess. And in my mind, all avoidable.
