There has been a rather organized effort in the US over the last couple of decades to marginalize Christianity and Christians. Progressives like to talk about the risk posed by the “Dominionists”, although I think it’s pretty clear that more progressives have heard about “Dominionists” than have Christians. :-)

So, whenever Christians speak of the US being a “christian nation”, the progressives tend to classify that person as a “dominionist”, without asking if the individual is making a (a) historical reference, (b) demographic reference, or © a forward looking statement. :-)

“C” is always assumed. :-(
