The indictments? Seriously?
Impeachment is a political decision, not a legal one. You have to, in the court of public opinion, convince the GOP base that Trump did something so heinous that he must be removed. Only if the GOP political leaders see that there is more to gain than cutting him lose than keeping him will they act.
Here’s a list of things that won’t get him impeached:
- Anything that has to do with merely talking to Russians. Anything that invokes the Logan Act would be laughed off. Everyone knows that it is standard operating procedure for incoming administrations to talk policy with their foreign counterparties.
- Using the Russians for opposition research. Obviously, because the Democrats did it as well.
- Any charges of obstruction of justice without a credible crime being committed. Why? Trump’s base does not consider Mueller to be credible.
The only possibility related to the Russian investigations that could actually work is if Trump HIMSELF were to have asked the Russians to commit a crime (e.g., hacking the DNC computers). If he KNEW they were committing a crime, and said nothing, that MIGHT be enough as well.
But the rest of all this is just nothing.
And…….what’s odd about the Russian investigation lovers is that they’re missing Trump’s REAL liability, that being the allegations of sexual abuse against him.
