The general view in American is that if the politicians aren’t representing you, go elect some other politicians.

The ramifications of the idea that the “other politicians” you’re voting in will serve you no better than the ones you’re voting out are so nasty that they go unchallenged, for the most part.

Milton Friedman actually used this while making the case for small government: since it is inevitable that the politicians will *not* represent you, then the only solution the people have is to strip the government of as much power as is possible.
