Perhaps Trump’s threatening to kill hundreds of thousands of jobs with an aluminum and steel tariff will but some backbone in the GOP leadership.

The estimated potential job loss from the tariffs is 142000, worst case. That would raise the unemployment rate from one tenth of one percent. What Trump is doing is loading his gun to get Canada back to the bargaining table on NAFTA. That was pretty obvious from Monday’s news. With a 25% steel tariff, he now has something to bargain with, at nominal cost to the US economy.

If the GOP leadership exhibits “backbone” on this, then what they are doing is putting their corporate interests ahead of the american people.

I remember a day where Democrats and liberals used to care more about people than the corporations. Apparently that’s gone by the wayside.
