That what Social Security is, it’s what pays for paving roads, cleaning our water, employs our police, etc.
That’s actually not true. “Socialism” is a very specific economic system which requires the state owning the means of production. If the state does not own the means of production, it is not “socialism.”
Europeans simply have a larger investment in shared cost welfare than we do, in some ways.
I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am that I have family in Europe who are able to live out their lives knowing they can always get good care.
Well, if that’s all that you care about, that’s fine. I have relatives in Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands; all of them have excellent care, and all of them live rather modestly after taxes. :-) I frequently kid them that the European system has made them prisoners in their own countries.
