Sadly, it seems many of these things have been lost over the past decades in the US. Trump will not bring them back.
Well this is not a partisan problem; nobody can fix this in eight short years. This is a devolution of attitude that’s been occurring in the US for decades. I suspect that in Germany (perhaps you can confirm) most of these SMEs are not publicly traded. Not publicly traded = no quarterly pressure to perform = less pressure to squeeze every dollar you can find out of the expense line.
In the US? The goal is to get public as fast as possible. Once you’re public, you get the stock price up or else.
