classic demagoguery is what the right does, erecting false choices to keep their ignorant masses angry and well-stocked with phantom enemies.

Putting aside the fact that both sides engage in demagoguery, none of the dichotomies that Kennedy listed would be viewed by the GOP or conservatives as legitimate or even sane. They are straw men.

I’m curious what are your politics? who is your ideal 2020 candidate?

My focus is economic conservationism. If you need to sum that up into a nice little tidbit, I’d simply say that the only way to seriously improve living standards for the nation whilst equitably distributing the improvements is by having a plethora of good paying jobs available. You’re never going to accomplish that through redistribution. So, the focus on any decent government should first and foremost be determining if the government has any policies which inhibit the creation of good paying jobs, and getting rid of those policies, unless doing so would have obviously horrible repercussions.

So, I’m a conservative who understands that conservatism isn’t corporatism, and that both parties are loaded with corporatists. Further, I believe in a significantly more modest international footprint vis a vis foreign policy, and understand that not being a neocon (which again there are plenty in both parties) doesn’t mean you are an isolationist, as the John McCains and Hilary Clintons keep trying to claim.

Perfect candidate……..well, I’d love to see Susanna Martinez run, but she never will, because of her laudable commitment to her special needs sister. I find myself occasionally liking Ben Sasse and Tom Cotton and Nikki Haley, but I find myself occasionally not liking them, either. Cruz would be palatable based on his intellect and policy knowledge alone; Rubio would not, since he’s become the next John McCain.

Plus, I think that the President should actually have run something political in their lives (a governor, an actual large department inside the government where the head RUNS things and doesn’t delegate everything, or a publicly held large corporation) so the number of people that could actually make me happy is rather limited, since it’s in vogue nowadays to pretend that senators make good presidents.
