Precisely. It causes progressive heads to explode when you mention this, but if (a) the Federal Government were limited to its original Constitutional role, AND (b) the corporate tax code was a flat tax, the influence of money in national politics would disappear.

Why? Well, if the Feds were limited to their Constitutional role (which is a lot more like how modern-day Switzerland operates), then the “action” would all be at the state level; the total lobbying money now spent (which is 90% spent in Washington today) would be split 50 ways, much lessening its influence.

AND, I’ve seen estimates that about 80% of that Federal lobbying money is not spent on regulatory issues, but on tax legislation beneficial to the lobbyist’s corporation. If you have no loopholes and deductions in the tax code……nothing to fight over.
