I have seen a lot of shocking things happen politically this century. So have you. However, more than any of them, this shocked me the most:

Oppose and mock the President. Oppose and mock anything you want. But despite the shocking and well documented failings of our intelligence organizations……..never doubt anything they say, or you must be defrocked.

For the record, I have relatives in Syria, who have been pinned down for years now in al-Qamishly between ISIS and the Syrian rebels. They think the idea that Assad ordered a chemical weapons attack is as absurd a notion as they have ever heard.
