Ok. So, instead of diving in to something that (as has been pointed out) as far reaching and potentially economically distorting as a UBI, what if we were to start out adapting to the “automated world” simply by redefining a full work week to 36 hours from 40?

If you do that, you immediately increase the number of workers needed in the economy by 10%, while at the same time you achieve the benefits of a less stressful, less work-driven society by each of its members.

(Obviously, that’s a rough calculation, but you see where I’m going here. By adjusting the length of the work week as needed, you can constantly balance the number of jobs to the number of workers, while sending the bill to the employer.)
