That women need protection from men should be as alien a concept as the logic that girls should have their clitoris cut off to keep them from straying or wear a hajib so men aren’t aroused by their appearance.
Odd thought there. Personally, I try to be constantly aware that I am not as physically strong as a man, and thus could use some protection from time to time.
I am apparently not alone, in that services like these are very common on college campuses.
Perhaps not so illogical.
And although I cannot account for what some Muslimas are taught regarding the hijab, if the reason for hijab was to prevent arousal in men, then there’d be no reason for any Muslim woman in a non Muslim country to wear one. After all, western men can get all the cheap thrills they want just walking down the street on a warm day.
I suspect the vast majority of Muslim women would say they wear one for the same reason I do: because we believe it is an ordinance from God, and we wish to please Him. Simple.
