Again you have butchered my points, for whatever reason. Maybe I am unclear. We do not have free markets.
Not in the laissez-faire sense, no. Nobody does.
Those require strict regulation. We have markets biased by Republican penchants for monopolies (Bork)
Republican? You just got done with eight years of Democrat presidenting, and was there any substantial action taken against anyone in an industry with limited competition? :-)
, big-ag (Butz)
I hate these handouts. Tom Harkin was one of the leading sponsors. He was a (D).
lobbying (Barbour, all only examples)
I agree, there’s too much. 70% of it is for preferential tax treatment, but when you suggest the solution (a flatter tax system which limits the ability of the politicians to manipulate the economy) you get <crickets> from the D’s.
, and the favoritism that occurs when you are so fanatical about markets you try to use them to value everything, including human life, and sell off protections through lobbying and elsewise to the highest bidder.
Conservativism isn’t corporatism. If you want to make the argument that the GOP is insufficiently conservative and too corporatist, you’ll get no argument from me.
As a baseball fan what would you say about the way the draft is structured? Socialism, is it not, giving the worst team first pick in the next round?
Let’s turn the free market loose on baseball and allow the richest teams to buy all the talent, thereby ensuring the whole sport implodes. That’s what we have done, in slow motion, since Republicans started the class war. Everything will implode if it goes on the way it is.
See previous comment on corporatism. Eventually, you’ll realize that this is not a GOP vs Dem issue, but a bought politician issue on both sides.
Maybe you are a technocrat and don’t care how many die in this insane process
I’ll stick with Stiglitz on that.
So will I. I especially liked the article he wrote 10–11 years ago titled something like “How the repeal of Glass Steagall caused the Meltdown” in which he actually admitted that the repeal of Glass Steagall didn’t cause the meltdown. :-)
Haven’t laughed so hard since, I don’t think. I’ve been asking people for 12 years to explain the mechanism of how the end of Glass Steagall caused the meltdown. 12 years now I have nothing but crickets.
I actually don’t have time for this
Oh, sure you do. It’s fun. :-)
You remind me of Taleb in this.
OK, that did it. If I remind you of THAT asshole, I have work on my user interface. :-)
