for both parties, yet Republicans seem to embrace it and be unaffected by it.

First off, the reason we’re having this national conversation NOW, instead of 25 years ago, is because the Democrats, at that time, “embraced it”, and told everyone they needed to be unaffected by it. They called us prudes, they called our morals old-fashioned, they laughed at us for being affected by it, and then they nominated for President his wife, who led the public relations barrage that called these women “trailer trash” and slut shamed them to hell and back.

Had that NOT happened, we would have had this conversation 25 years ago, sexual abuse of women would have been front and center now for the last 25 years, thousands of women abused during that period would have been spared that ignominy, and Trump never would have been elected, since the idea of electing somebody like him would have been burned into our psyche as totally unacceptable.

So, the next time you see Trump (assuming you’re a Democrat) say to yourself “We made him possible”.

BUT, more broadly speaking, it’s really not partisan. It CAN’T be partisan. Anyone who tries to thread that needle in such a way that excuses the toads from one party but convicts the toads from the other……they themselves lack moral clarity on this issue.

And if we lack moral clarity, and start trying to pretend that one party is better than the other, or cares more than the other…..all we’re doing is rationalizing the matter, kicking the can down the road, and increasing the probability of it all happening again.
