He wasn’t saying that statistics were “lies”, as much as he was saying that statistics are often used in a more nefarious way than they’re intended, and often times in manners worse than lies. I tend to think that there’s “lies, damned lies, and inferences.”

Look, it was late, I was tired, and it wasn’t the best example. :-) Your point I actually agree with. A lot of the stats work I do is disproving other statistical inferences.

The issue here is not the example I used, of course, but the underlying point: that what’s best for society is not necessarily best for the individual, and vice versa. There are a plethora of examples, better ones, that could bear out that point.

This rant is really in support of your argument, although I paint a broad stroke, and not just against SJW’s (who are guilty of this).
