I have a son 6 years out of choosing where to go to university. I have strong concern about where to send him. At my core I am against shielding him from ideas I object to but the kind of bullying going on in these places is just objectionable to me.
I’ve worked through this concern somewhat, as my daughter will be a senior in HS next year.
I’ve decided that since I’m spending a lot of money for an education, I want the same kid back after graduation that I sent to school. I don’t want some indoctrinated ninny that is going to make me miserable at family dinners on into the future.
She will be a hard sciences major. That said, she already knows that her electives need to pass parental approval, or they’re on her dime, not ours.
I may send her as an exchange student for a semester in Ireland, for the express purpose of taking European History from Svetlana Voreskova. :-)
(Heck, my mother’s family comes from County Cork. Why not?)
