A world without any of those problems is uninteresting and unsexy to the average human mind. We’re not creating it because we’re bored by the very thought of it. If utopia were created tomorrow, humanity would sabotage it almost immediately out of sheer restlessness.
I’ve made largely this point as to why I believe Guaranteed Basic Income is doomed to fail.
If the GBI is large enough to actually live a satisfactory existence on, then it eliminates a good many of the problems we thrive on. If society were to suddenly have a large number of people for whom life is not a struggle, then they would either (a) create their own struggles, and/or (b) sedate themselves into not caring.
I could go on and speculate on how much of both (a) and (b) are currently being demonstrated in our own sociopolitical environment, seeing that we, along with Europe, Oz, and the Kiwis, already the most economically indolent societies in history……but why ruin the fun? :-)
