It’s probably worth mentioning that bigotry of any sort is based on fear of the unknown.

In general, bigots have never/do not/ will not interact with the people/group they are bigoted against.

If interaction moves a bigot off their bigotry and just into a zone where they stop actively trying to discriminate against you, that’s a huge win. Demanding they become an activist for your cause is simply asking too much. Take what you can get and move on.
