It’s not hyperbole to call the healthcare repeal that Republicans in Congress passed today a travesty, ripping away coverage from millions of Americans with “pre-existing conditions” that range from ADD (which I have) to rape and sexual assault survival.
It‘s not hyperbole, it’s just false. The GOP bill (a) allows states to apply for a WAIVER from the pre-existing condition clause IF (b) they have in place a properly funded alternative that reasonably insures that anyone affected by the waiver will still be able to get insurance.

So, to summarize, the pre-existing clause is just as valid under the GOP plan as it is under the ACA, UNLESS you live in a state that receives a waiver. As Lowry points out, none of the blue states will do that, and most of the red states won’t either, because smaller states will not be able to muster the financial muscle to come up with a competent alternative model for the chronically ill.
Because in recent comments yesterday, she said she didn’t support single payer as an option for reforming healthcare. When a Facebook friend of mine posted an Observer Article about this, with the words “Primary me, Daddy” written above it (his, not the articles), I cringed.
The above comment aside, I cannot agree with you more on this one. The near-sexual fetish the left has had with single payer since the demise of Hilarycare has prevented Americans from having some sort of healthcare plan alternative for decades.
The GOP was ready to pass national HSAs after Hilary care until they hit the “if it’s not single payer, we don’t want it” obstacle, and although you probably don’t think much of HSA’s, they would have provided all uninsured Americans with access to free or inexpensive preventative care/gyn care/well baby care, and ended medical bankruptcies. That’s not nothing.
Further, the single payer fetish has been perpetrated with lies; I cannot begin to count the number of times a single-payer supporter has included the phrase “single payer, like all other developed countries have” which is provable nonsense. Not only do other developed countries use plans other than single payer, most developed nations use something other than single payer.
Yes, I’m fully admitting that I do not attack women with whom I agree on 90% of all the issues simply because I do not believe it’s politically effective to attack women with whom I agree on 90% of the issues.
I sincerely hope that you would never not speak your mind simply because of who you are speaking it to. That sort of self-censorship is not advisable.
