“Of course as part of this, churches, temples, mosques, and everything else should all have to pay their taxes. US churches received an official federal income tax exemption in 1894. That absurd decision is still in effect to this very day. That’s ridiculous!”
Is it? The power to tax IS the power to control, pure and simple. In its most basic form.
(Of course, in my mind, the issue ought to be moot, because charitable contributions are not “income”. But that’s a court decision yet to be rendered.)
