I’m not quite sure why everyone these days seems to want to turn their personal foibles into some kind of movement that demands everyone else’s attention and applause.

Well, you do, of course. The love of democracy is, for way too many, just lip service. What they want is a government that will do for them what they believe to be RIGHT, and they support democracy only to the extent it gives it to them.

The minute democracy fails to deliver what they believe to be RIGHT, or (heaven forbid) what the believe to be WRONG, they suddenly stop being democrats and become socialists, communists, anarchists, totalitarians, or whatever best promises to deliver that which they believe is RIGHT.

Over the short term, the promise of mob rule seems to them to have good prospects for success. :-(

It’s utter vanity, of course. No self-reflection of any kind.
