What are your thoughts on the public education system and/or home school?
I’m 100% behind you. However, I do have some thoughts:
- You’ve realized, it seems, that you can teach what a regular school teaches in 7 hours in 4. That;s good, gives you time for extra material or a more relaxed pace.
- Obviously, focusing in on interests is great. Public schools can’t do that; the have to be, more or less, “one size fits all”.
- UNFORTUNATELY, if you continue to home school into high school, there is an ugly monster in front of you called the “SATs” which forces you to teach and master the standard high school curriculum. This markedly limits your freedom and options, so if at that point your district has an acceptable education option (a magnet, a charter, an early college campus, etc) you may think of that as a good turnover point at which your child re-enters the public school system.
