Increase the tax on bullets so that they cost at least $100 each. Maybe more.
If I’m not mistaken, the courts have already ruled on something similar to this, and thrown it out. It’s gun control under another name.
I would also ban automatic weapons.
Automatic weapons have been banned since the 1930’s. What you want to get at is the AR-15 hacks that make them “almost automatic” like the bump stocks.
People who want to buy a gun would go through an extensive background check. Those who show up significant for domestic abuse, or other acts of violence would be denied guns. (Sorry! That’s the consequence for being violent).
But, I don’t like the solution. It would cost more tax money to put an armed security guard at every school. Also, I don’t want my country to resemble Latin America — where a security guard with a large machine gun stands outside of a Pizza Hut protecting the customers.
You might want to think again.
We have armed guards in airports. We have them in office buildings. We have them in government buildings. We have them in shopping malls at Christmas. We have them in jewelry stores. We have them in banks.
It would appear to the average observer that we care more about travelers, corporate executives, politicians, and shoppers more than we do about our children.
Distaste for the optics is not a good reason to allow more children to die.
