That’s a pretty big leap.

I think it’s more akin to stepping over a crack in the sidewalk.

I lived through it. Anyone who suggested that he should resign was treated viciously. The corresponding investigation was dismissed as “all political.” And then, the wife that slut-shamed all of his accusers was nominated for the Presidency, which caused anyone who was an adult during that period, and who believed that justice had NOT been done, to relive the entire incident.

I have heard MANY Trump voters say, when challenged about the pussy-grabbing, respond with something like “Well, the Democrats taught us that that sort of behavior was OK.” And I’ve heard the same thing, albeit not from as many, who in their minds justified their support for Moore using it.

Personally, I consider the political behavior of the Democrats during that period to be one of the three or four most reprehensible political party behaviors of my lifetime. And it should be brought up every time there’s a claim of moral authority coming from those supporters. (To be sure, I have to give credit where credit is due to the left-leaning pundits and politicians who have admitted their errors during this period, such as Matt Yglesias and Kirsten Gillbrand.)

We had a chance to have the national conversation we are having TODAY back then. We didn’t have it, because of reasons political. That’s not admirable by any metric.
