After surveying over 1100 drivers, they found that 74 percent of drivers earn less than minimum wage and the median profit was $3.37 per hour before taxes.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
It should have been obvious from the beginning that when some fabulous young millenial comes up with another idea for a “platform”, which uses social networking to do this-or-that which used to be marginally more difficult beforehand, he’s not doing it to “change the world for the better”; he’s doing it to reroute all the money from the companies and workers that used to provide this-or-that into his or her own pocket.
What do you think Amazon.com is all about? :-) Same thing. Rerouting all the money that used to be spent at a brick and mortar into Jeff Bezos’s pocket. Putting millions out of work in the process.
If you use Uber or Lyft, you are doing two things:
- You are contributing to income inequality, and…
- You are destroying the income stream of a middle class household who used to work for a cab company for your own “convenience”.
Call Yellow Cab, for fuck’s sake. There’s nothing wrong with them, and never was. Plus, you know the cab driver is screened and he has a proper insurance policy to cover you.
