Its not, though. I dont remmeber the rape stats by heart but the recidivism was rather small…
I don’t know where you’re getting your data, but I’ve seen studies (and these are the ones our courts are working off of) where pedophila recidivism tops 90%, with no shortage of mental health professionals agreeing that this seems to be something that’s hard-wired into people. So, that’s the basis for putting these people online.
And that’s the stat that scares mothers.
I never claimed it is confortable. I claimed that given proper infrastructure cars would not be needed, and you seem to think that uncomfortable levels of heat is somehow a counterargument to that.
It certainly is a motivation to hop in an air-conditioned car rather than walk extended differences.
So intentional prevention of good infrastructure. Guess that explains why this gap hasnt been filled.
Depends how you define “good infrastructure”. From the homeowners perspective, they prefer isolated residential neighborhoods so they do not have to deal with the hustle, bustle, and traffic of shopping centers.
The output can be hard to control in some professions. For example the code a software developer provides would need a lot of additional information attached to it to see how much he actually worked on it.
The counterargument is that coding is something that you can judge on output. Lots of developers in the US work remotely; the manager simply says “by next Tuesday, I need a working prototype of X; if you hit a snag, let me know.”
Employees who keep hitting snags get unwanted scrutiny. I personally haven’t even lived in the same city as my manager for well over twenty years.
Depends on requirements for the workstation. Sometimes a laptop is simply not enough. Not to mention the setups people have at home. If i could remote i would certainly use my own PC as it is superior both in technical aspects and in UI hardware (better input devices, monitors). However it means our IT would have to support a different type of computer instead of standartized workstation. Extra costs.
Eh. The issue is the OS. Software exists that allow remote management of devices based on OS. In my case, all my company needs to know is what OS you’re running, and you can download an image of the corporate stack. (Obviously, not all OS levels are supported. The official standards are Win 7, WIn 10, and MacOS, but the corp VPN client also runs on Linux, so I just use that. Not all of the corporate stack runs on Linux, but it’s close enough so they support it.
As far as costs of real estate goes, this is why amazon is building a new campus in a cheap location instead of renting an expensive one.
I think all the finalists for their campus are in relatively expensive cities. IIRC, it’s down to Toronto (pricey), Austin or Atlanta (both above the US mean for major cities).
