(In my opinion) Trump is a terrifying disaster in fact and in the making. Be silent? Are you kidding me?!
I don’t expect anyone to be silent; I only ask that they be factual, and maintain some sense of perspective.
We need more than one life-time to master all knowledge.
Quite. Robert Graves opined that as we “progress”, the amount of study needed to master any one area has gone from months to years to decades. And because of this, we have become LESS “intelligent”, not more. We specialize in a certain area, and in the process, have no time to study others, leaving us with a base of expertise which does not permit us to converse intelligently in areas other than our own.
This was not true in the past, when it was possible (difficult, not possible) for an intelligent person to be conversant in multiple disciplines.
I think Graves was correct, and we see this playing out more and more in our politics. In the field of economics alone, some things that are believed by some, and vigorously defended by them, are simply ludicrous. You can appreciate this, I think, in that your degree is in a specialty area of statistics.
Even in more mundane areas such as civics, people simply do not realize that what they may perceive to be madness, there is actually great wisdom behind, if they were only to take the time to read the history and understand the thought process of the authors of the Constitution.
