I am reminded of the old movie “Soapdish” which was about the cast of a soap opera whose personal lives were far more complicated and dramatic than their soap opera lives.

Whoopi Goldberg played the writer of the show. There’s a memorable scene where she’s watching all the personal drama the cast is going through, and she says to herself, “Man, why can’t *I* write shit like this?”

I think our politics has come to the same point.
