It hasn’t occurred to anyone that the original narrative:

one prevailing narrative suggested that the primary reason people voted for Donald Trump had to do with poor economic prospects that stemmed from trade and globalization.

…and the new one that the author is now stating:

“besides partisan affiliation, it was cultural anxiety — feeling like a stranger in America, supporting the deportation of immigrants, and hesitating about educational investment — that best predicted support for Trump.”

….are actually two ways of phrasing the same thing?
