Rantt Rundown: Trump Throws Sanity To The Wind And Violates The Iran Deal

Now, let’s talk about the Iran Deal. Here’s reality:
- Mr. Obama did not have the authority to commit the US to *any* policy past the ending of his term. Iran knew that, and all of our allied counterparties knew that. What they HOPED was that the Iran Deal would have so much inertia that the subsequent president, if it wasn’t Hilary Clinton, would leave it in place. They were wrong.
- More broadly, it is a principle of our system of governance that no President may make committments that a subsequent president would have to keep. For Mr. Obama to have tried to do so is not illegal….. but it certainly calls his committment to American ideals and our form of government into question.
