Has there ever been a time when one of these Utopian seedlings was not under constant pressure from those that had a vested interested in making sure those societies failed?

The question is too broad for my tastes. While I will grant that any “seedling” had external and internal forces placed upon it that were opposed to it, I would say that several of them (USSR, Nazi Germany, China) were powerful enough to shrug those off; the former and latter of those rotted from within. I personally believe that capitalist behavior is almost as instinctive within us as the desire for sex or fight/flight, and to rail against it is a fool’s errand.

“For one example, my own extended family in Sweden has experienced huge decreases in taxation rates and social assistance programs; my brother in law (retired) has a “free” (crappy) apartment, “free” medical care, but lives like an effing pauper because his retirement allowance is so tiny.”

This may be true, but the data points to an overall high level of happiness in those countries when compared to the US.

Yea……..but these are TINY, NONDIVERSE COUNTRIES you see at the top of that list, and the entire methodology for measuring “happiness” is a mishmosh of subjective measurements. The only two on that list that interest me in the least as being “ok, why is that” are Canada and Australia, and that’s mostly beause they are akin to us in size, as even Canada is just a tad over 10% the size of the US.

So……my spider sense tells me that when you have a small population, it’s a lot easier to create political and social structures that please people. Not sure we can get there with the US, ever.

“But, you;re right; when a nation’s “hottest companies” do nothing more than provide indolent entertainment and toys (Apple, Google, Facebook) and/or do nothing more than reroute revenues from established businesses into their own pockets (Amazon), you’re in some sort of capitalistic endgame that’s begging for a restructuring.”

(I’m on a plane with no headphones, cant look at this now.)
