First of all, let me say that I am incredibly pissed off at Donald Trump, Colin Kaepernick, Shaun King, and everyone else who has conspired to take away the One Good Day of Clean Football Fun away from us.
Literally every white person in Oakland and SF hates Trump. I wonder what it is about Curry and Kaepernick that made Trump single them out?
Oh, BS. I travel there, and to other “liberal” areas like LA and Boston all the time on business. There are no shortage of non-Trump-haters everywhere. I have these discussions all the time.
Why? Because HATE is an immature reaction when it comes to politicians. Most people (regardless of what party they pledge allegiance to) don’t hate; they were raised better than that. They give people the benefit of the doubt, and they don’t attribute heinous evil motives to people without something more than nebulous circumstantial evidence that wouldn’t even merit a hearing in small claims court.
Trump’s tirade on this matter was stupid. It was another example of him touching a third rail that didn’t have to be touched, done because he wanted to throw raw meat to the ultra-patriotic wing of his supporters.
But we don’t have to take the bait. I refuse to be swung like a pendulum between neo-Nazis/supremacists/the people who have some odd fetish towards Confederate memorials and BLM/Antifa/other leftist activists. They are all little minded people who, if you add up all the TRUE, DIE-HARD supporters of all six of those cited movements, wouldn’t even fill the LA Coliseum (which the Rams desperately need right about now).
There’s a word for someone who stokes racial tensions for personal gain: Racist. And contrary to popular opinion, the same word applies to anyone who supports that person.
No, Dave, popular opinion is correct on this, not you. People aren’t as myopic as you seem to think. Are you seriously suggesting that anyone who supports, say, a Trump plan on corporate taxation immediately has racism imputed to them?
I suggest you not try to defend that intellectually dishonest shibboleth.
Further, you’re not Miss Cleo; you are not the final arbiter who gets to say what goes on in other people’s minds, especially not Trump’s. MOST people who are pissed at the demonstrations during the anthem are, hate to break it to you, NOT RACISTS.
And you know that; the underlying sentimentality in this country about the anthem and the flag are very strong, and anyone who disrespects those symbols quickly becomes a pariah. Those were white kids that used to get beat up in the 60’s when they burned flags, you may have forgotten.
When you come out and state categorically that Trump made those comments out of racism, without sufficient evidence and in the face of contravening facts, you’re no better than he is.
Now quit being part of the problem. Be part of the solution.
