It really amazes me, though it shouldn’t, how many people defending these statues
Except…..nobody that I’ve read in this thread is defending the STATUES.
What the people who disagree with you are against is the deconstruction or movement of *any* historical monument, regardless of its subject, for the reasons that Svetlana Voreskova and others have described.
If somebody were to say “keep the Confederate statues, but take down the statue of that jerk so-and-so”, then they’d be “defending the Confederate statues”. However, the debate here is taking a much more broad position than “defending Confederate statues”, and to not acknowledge that is misrepresenting the positions being articulated.
