Data is data. The cause of income inequality is the information age and globalization, which provides ample opportunity for the rich to funnel wealth that used to be distributed throughout society into the hands of a few.
Example? Amazon. Amazon proper (leave AWS to the side) is simply an ecommerce platform. All that money that used to go to Barnes and Nobel and all those mom and pop bookstores? Bezos’ pocket. Pick whatever Amazon sells. All it’s doing is taking revenue that used to be broadly distributed to the population and dropping it in Amazon’s bank account.
There are dozens upon dozens of examples like that. Then, let’s take, oh, Phil Knight, selling athletic shoes that could be made in the US for 30 bucks a pair (and sold for a hundred) manufacturing them over in the Phillipines (or whereever) for 5 bucks a pair, and selling them for a hundred. Again, money that used to be dispersed over the population ends up in Nike’s bank account.
You’ve got the problem right. You’ve picked the wrong bogeyman.
